IN-PERSON AUDITION INFO

NOTE: In-person auditions are preferred and highly recommended over video audition submissions. Please attend this audition if at all possible.

WHEN: Saturday, July 13 (specific times by age group outlined below; ages determined as of October 1st for the coming year)

WHERE: Center for the Arts on the PV High School campus at 1475 East Ave, Chico CA

WHAT TO KNOW: Bring $20 CASH audition fee per dancer (non-refundable). A parent/guardian must accompany the dancer at drop off to sign the release form and fill out dancer measurements. Auditions themselves are closed to any viewers; dancers must be dropped off/picked up in the lobby area. Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to audition start time.

Ages 6-8, or beginning level dancer: 10:30a-11:15a

  • Girls’ Attire: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair secured in a ballet bun

  • Boys’ Attire: Black shirt/leotard, black tights/dance shorts, black socks, black ballet shoes

Ages 9-11, or intermediate level dancer (no pointe experience): 11:30a-12:30p

  • Girls’ Attire: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair secured in a ballet bun

  • Boys’ Attire: Black shirt/leotard, black tights/dance shorts, black socks, black ballet shoes

Ages 12+, or advanced level dancer with pointe experience: 1:15p-2:30p

  • Girls’ Attire: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, pointe shoes, hair secured in a ballet bun

  • Boys’ Attire: Black shirt/leotard, black tights/dance shorts, black socks, black ballet shoes

Pointe/Variations Audition: 2:30p-3:30p

Students participating in this audition must have also attended the 12+/advanced level audition from 1:15-2:30pm; there is no additional fee for this audition beyond the original $20 charge.

VIDEO AUDITION SPECIFICS

NOTE: All videos, along with the $30 cash payment and application form, must be submitted via email PRIOR to Saturday, July 13 (northstateballet@gmail.com). Videos, payments, and/or application forms received July 13 or after will not be considered for casting. In-person auditions are HIGHLY preferred over video auditions whenever possible.

Ages 6-8, or beginning level dancer:

  • Demi plies in 1st and 2nd positions with tendu

  • Tendu with temps lie (transfer of weight) from 1st to 2nd positions, or 5th to 5th positions

  • Skips x2 with parallel pas de chat x2 repeated across the floor

  • Sautés (jumps) and releves (rises) with balance in 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions

  • Spring points with gallops across the floor

  • Demonstration of splits in all positions, as well as seal stretch on the floor (shows back flexibility)

  • Chaine turns across floor (slow x2, followed by quick in a straight line pattern, hands on shoulders)

Ages 9-11, or intermediate level dancer (no pointe experience):

  • Demi and grande plies in 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions with tendu

  • Tendu with temps lie (transfer of weight) from 5th to 5th positions with simple port de bras (arm movements)

  • Skips x2 with parallel pas de chat x2 repeated across the floor

  • Sautés (jumps) and releves (rises) with balance in 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions

  • Spring points with gallops across the floor

  • Saute arabasque and saute retire derriere across floor

  • Chaine turns across floor (slow x2, followed by quick in a straight line pattern, hands on shoulders or in 1st position)

  • Demonstration of splits in all positions, as well as seal stretch on the floor (shows back flexibility)

Ages 12+, or advanced level dancer:

All combinations must be completed on pointe where applicable.

  • Demi and grande plies in 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th positions with tendu

  • Dégagés combination in center, showcasing rapid and clean footwork and foot positions

  • Simple développe combination showing devant, a la seconde, and arabesque positions on both sides with holds

  • Demonstration of splits in all positions, as well as seal stretch on the floor (shows back flexibility)

  • Sautés (jumps) and releves (rises) with balance in 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions; repeat combination using batterie

  • Simple grande allegro pass across the floor, featuring pas de chat and saut de chat on both sides

  • Pique turns and chaine turns across floor
